17 Remote Work Statistics Show That It’s Here to Stay

Remote work is an essential part of our lives; remote work statistics show how important it is. Work from home was available under a special arrangement to accommodate some cases. However, technological advancement has reached a point where some businesses thrive using this model.

COVID-19 has affected almost every aspect of our life. It has also altered the way we work. In response to containment policies, companies and organizations encouraged their employees to stay home for their safety and their families safety.

Statistics About Remote Work

Work from home (WFH) emerged in the early 2000s, but now it has become a part of our lives. Some interesting remote work statistics are given below.

1- 16% of companies globally are fully remote, according to a study by Owl labs. The study also stated that 62% of workers aged 22 to 65 claim to work remotely occasionally, but 44% of companies do not allow any remote work.

2- 41.8% of Americans were working remotely as of late 2020. An economic report by Upwork revealed it. The same study stated that by 2025, 36.2 million Americans would be working virtually.

3- 45% of U.S. employees were working remotely in early 2021. According to Remote Work Persisting and Trending Permanent by Gallup, in 2021, either all (25%) or part of the time (20%) in Gallup’s September update of its monthly employment trends.

4- Two-thirds of white-collar employees (67%) were working from home either exclusively (41%) or some of the time (26%) in September 2021.Remote Work Persisting and Trending Permanent by Gallup gave these interesting remote work statistics. Most white collar workers prefer to work remotely because remote work saves their time and helps them to work efficiently.

5- U.S. job seekers value flexibility and autonomy over where and when they work. A study by Mckinsey states that the most common rationale for a job hunt was a desire for higher pay or more hours, followed by a search for better career opportunities. The third reason was looking for a flexible working arrangement.

6- Growing demand for remote jobs is observed in major cities,  Remote work is more common in high-income cities. Improvements in technology, high-speed internet, and the availability of tools have made it possible for many businesses to offer remote jobs. Since big, high-income cities have observed growth of remote jobs.

7- The gender wage gap persists in remote work. Men across the globe prefer 8% more work remotely than women. At the same time, they’re also more likely to earn six figures working online jobs (13% Vs. 8%).

10- Remote work cuts down the expenses of employees. In the study by ConnectSolutions, respondents said they see a clear financial benefit in working remotely. 31% of employees reported a significant savings of $5,240 per year in expenses such as daycare, transportation, lunch, and dry cleaning. 

11- 74% of employees feel happier while working from home. Remote work saves employees’ energy and saves them from the hassle of transportation and preparing for the office. According to a  study by Owl labs and Global Workplace Analytics, remote work reduces employees. Remote work saves employees time commuting, provides more flexibility, and saves time.

12- 31% of all new job postings advertised in October 2022 required remote working states by Robert Half Remote Job Trends. An increasing number of jobs require remote work in several professions. Office and administrative support, marketing, technology, consultancy, media, arts, and design all had quarter-over-quarter growth in remote postings.

13- The top two benefits of remote work are flexibility and money saving. On the financial side, the most apparent benefit is money saving in transportation, food, etc. According to FlexJobs, an employee spends $2,700 on lunches annually. Remote jobs save money and provide flexibility to employees. 

14- Remote work improves employee productivity, two-thirds (62%) of workers feel more productive when working remotely. Productivity is different in remote work depending on the generation of employees. Millennials think they are most effective while working from home (66%),and Boomers feel the least (46%), remote work statistics by Owl labs show.

15 – Although the pandemic is over, remote work has become a part of our work life. According to Forbes, 25% of all professional jobs in North America will be remote by the end of 2022

16- The top five industries encouraging remote work, according to PayScale, are Marketing and Advertising (75%), Internet and Information Technology (71%), Art and Design (69%), Media and Publishing (66%), and Accounting and Finance (61%).

17- 57% of the remote workers said they are delighted with their job, stated in the latest CNBC Momentive Workforce Survey of more than 9,000 employees across the United States.

Remote employees showed greater satisfaction with their salaries, recognition from colleagues, chances of advancement in career, flexibility, and autonomy.

Conclusion:

In the pandemic, we have seen a sudden shift to remote work. Now the pandemic is over, work from home or remote work has become a part of our work life. Remote work provides companies with increased productivity, innovation, creativity, and cost reduction. At the same time, it benefits employees through increased job satisfaction, better work-life balance, and money saving.
